Valentine's Day: Anatomical Heart

I've never been into Valentine's Day since hearts, mushy sentiments, and the color pink are really not my thing.  I do love a good anatomical graphic though, so I decided to make a Valentine's decoration with the sole purpose of making me laugh every time I see it.  This thing is so easy: I painted a $1 Goodwill frame white (love you Goodwill!) and stuck an awesome Graphics Fairy image in the frame. Bam! Valentine's Day.

PS I'm sharing this at these link parties.

The Bee Zoo is Back!

So, I quit blogging for a few months...but now I'm back, with a renewed sense of what I want this blog to be, and a new sense of excitement.  I had become really uninspired creatively, primarily because I never wanted to be in my freezing dungeon of a craft room.  But, thanks to a great suggestion by Travis, we switched some rooms around and now I have a new (warm) craft room!!  There it is at the top of your screen!

Having a new space means I've been overflowing with ideas and inspiration, which made me take a look at why I stopped blogging.  While I have fun looking at other people's work on their blogs and sites, it's really not much fun for me to write about it here.  What I'd much rather be doing is creating and sharing my projects and having a relaxed atmosphere.  This also means posting only when I really have something to share, not just because I feel that I have to post something that day.  Also, I noticed that I don't sound like myself at all in my posts, which is not so cool.  So, from now on, The Bee Zoo is going to focus a lot more on the creative stuff I'm dabbling in, other projects that really excite me, and will hopefully have my true voice.

PS I joined up with Project Restyle!  Good idea, Red Velvet ladies.

Paper Frames via Design*Sponge

I am in love with these paper frames that I saw on Design*Sponge today!  I'm thinking about making these to frame the pictures I want to put up in the hallway instead of buying ones.  Just amazing.

Here's some recent finds from Etsy's many undiscovered shops.  I'm sure they'd love it if you stop by!

Kitty Portraits

Fact #1: Travis loves his cat, King... a lot.  I don't blame him though, King is the greatest little dude ever.  I was inspired a long time ago by Elsie's pet portraits, and decided to make this painting of King as an anniversary present.

Fact #2: Travis loves singing to King and changing the words to be about him.  The songs are usually reggae songs, since that's his favorite type of music.  For Travis' birthday last month, I made him another portrait of a Buffalo Kingers (instead of Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier) by decoupaging the uniform and painting the face.  I still laugh every time I see it!

Patrick Hruby of Patrick Draws Things is simply amazing.  I love his colorful, geometric style of illustrations.  Check out his stunning portfolio and his blog.

Painting Update

I've been working on some new fall paintings! This one is inspired by an incredible maple tree I see on my way to work, and is about half-way done.  I'm hoping to finish it this week.
